Breakish is a great base when self catering on Skye as it places you in reach of many activities. You will be able to use our own personal guide to places and activities off the beaten track which we send to customers. We can also introduce you to walking and climbing guides and outdoor centres who will customise a day’s activities for your group. If you can’t face driving on single track roads (and the driver not seeing much of the views) why don’t you head over to Duncan’s Tour page https://skye-day-tours.com !
Lady Claire MacDonald, the famous TV Chef, has a hotel nearby. Our 5 star cottage Tigh Roisin is next door to the Red Skye Restaurant. There is a kayaking school in Lower Breakish, and lots of pubs with live traditional music.
Apart from these, you might want to visit our favourite picnic spots on Skye, including the Coral Beach near Dunvegan or the Fairy Pools near Sligachan. A wet suit is a very useful piece of kit while visiting Skye!
You might want to go out on Calum’s Seal Trips (“free if no seals” ) if not for the amazing scenery and wildlife, then for the amusing running commentary that he makes on the trip.
If Castles are your thing then we have them in abundance on the Isle of Skye, from the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, famous for its part in the ‘Highlander’ movie, to ruins such as Castle Moil in Kyleakin, once owned by the infamous ‘Saucy Mary’ who stretched chains across the Kyles and exacted a toll from passing boats.
